Their diets vary by species, with some being frugivores and others insectivores or omnivores that primarily eat insects. They are also known for their ability to adapt their diets to different environmental conditions.
Most monkeys live in tropical regions of Central and South America, Asia, and Africa. Some, such as the marmoset and the rhesus macaque, are native to these areas, while others are migratory.
In captivity, monkeys are kept in zoos or in sanctuaries as pets. Some people choose to own a monkey as pets, but there are a number of things to consider before taking this step.
The first thing to look for when deciding to own a monkey is the health of the animal. You will need to check that the monkey is free of hepatitis, which can be dangerous for humans. You will need to ensure that the monkey has been properly vetted by a reputable breeder and that it is in good health and has received regular medical care.
Most monkeys are very social animals and live in troops consisting of many females with young and a single male. Like apes and humans, female monkeys nurse their young.
