A monkey is a member of the primate order, simiiformes. They are related to apes like chimpanzees and gorillas but are more primitive than their cousins.
Monkeys are divided into two groups, simiiformes catarrhini and simiiformes platyrrhini. Catarrhini have downward-pointing nostrils, while platyrrhini have outward-pointing ones.
Diets vary between species but all of them eat a variety of plant and animal foods. They are also known to spread seeds from plants and flowers, which help rejuvenate the ecosystems in which they live.
The amount of food a monkey consumes is dependent on the time of year and the environment they live in. For example, squirrel monkeys may feast on grubs during those insects’ breeding times or eat a lot of fruit while it is ripe.
They are also known to be a bit messy with their feces, which are often left scattered around the area. It’s best to pick up any poop before it gets a chance to land on your clothes or carpet.
Repellents that work against monkeys include chasing them away and making loud noises, such as firecrackers or a water pistol. This will scare them off and encourage them to stay away from your property.

Most often, a monkey will snatch your belongings and drop them, either on the ground or at a higher height. This is especially the case when they are in troops and have juveniles with them, so it is a good idea to carry hiking poles or sticks when you’re on a trip where you are likely to come into contact with monkeys.
